It's the festive season, and your business is getting ready to round up the year. It is only fitting that you come up with campaigns to increase your visibility as well as appreciate your customers on social media. I need to digress a little here; so I was to attend a function at a lounge somewhere in Lagos this pst weekend, and I was on the verge of getting lost because I had never been at that location before. I then thought, "oh I could look up the address on Google Maps", but I was shocked to find that a lounge as popular as that one was not listed anywhere on Google! Shocking right?
Here's an aside to all Lagos business owners who might stumble on this blog post, you need to get your businesses on the map! Do not assume that people will find their way easily to your business by asking people for directions, we are in a tech revolution, get your business registered on Google business! If you do not know how to about that, you can send me a mail on socialgirl101@hotmail.com and I will gladly be of help to you.
Now back to doing social media the right way for the festive season. Yes, your physical store might be all lit up for the season, you have fliers out telling people about the good stuff they can get at your store, but how well have you been able to reach out to your virtual customers? Your goal for the festive season should be to retain your old customers, as well as attract new ones online and make them visit your physical store too (if you do not have an e-commerce site). Here are a few things you can do on your social media to attract people to your business this festive season:
- Visuals are key! - I always say it is important to put out attractive images that will get users clicking on your content. Get creative this season, do something different!
- Mouthwatering Offers - No matter how small your business is, you should always consider giving your customers more reasons to be interested in your business. Offer them something exciting like a certain percentage off selected items, or a gift card at half the price, or a buy one, get one free type of offer. These incentives not only drive traffic to your site, they also impact on your sales when executed properly.
- Online Competitions - Asides making offers, you could also create exciting giveaways to attract people to your pages. Make use of sensational hashtags to be able to track conversations around your giveaway and increase it's popularity. This not only gets people talking about your giveaway, it also pushes your business into the e-consciousness of more users.
- Get Your Business On Google Maps! - Like I had described above, it is some sort of travesty if your business cannot be located on apps like google maps in 2015. -_- Make it easy for people to locate your business, especially in the local directory, so that you do not lose out on potentially new customers (especially if you run a local eatery or gift shop or something).
In all this, do not lose sight of the services your business really offers. Tailor your online activities to the services you render and can deliver on. Goodluck!
